A convicted felon has been in jail after allegedly injuring his one-and-a-half-month-old son. The baby’s mother was also arrested.
Officials in Franklin said they were called to a home in the 100 block of Johnson Circle on March 26 after a relative called 911 saying the baby was not breathing.
First responders performed CPR, and the baby was saved. He was taken to the hospital where his health improved.
An investigation revealed 28-year-old Demarcus Helm, the baby’s father, allegedly seriously injured the infant.
Helm and 21-year-old Tytianna Jones, the baby’s mother, were arrested Friday. Helm was charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse. He was being held on a $50,000 bond with a court appearance scheduled for 9 a.m. on May 31.
Investigators said Jones lied to them about the baby's injuries during her initial statements. She has been charged with child endangerment and accessory after the fact. Jones was being held on a $25,000 bond.
The baby has been in the care of the Department of Children’s Services since being released from the hospital.
