NewsChannel 5 paid tribute to the former Tennessee women's basketball head coach who not only made sports history, but also touched the lives of so many Tennesseans.

Summitt was a Middle Tennessee native who made an impact on the lives of many people, especially women athletes.

Vol fans and Tennesseans flocked to Summitt Plaza in Knoxville where a statue of Pat Summitt stands. They laid flowers and flags at the statue in her honor.

Many former players, fellow coaches and friends shared their stories of Pat with NewsChannel 5.

The Lady Vols Chief Operating Officer, Donna Thomas, said a heartfelt and moving goodbye to the woman she called a friend as tears rolled down her face.

She was a woman who made history in the sports world, but she also touched the lives and hearts in the volunteer state - a true Tennessee Treasure.
