A pedestrian was killed on 101st Airborne Division Parkway in Clarksville.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Whitfield Road.

Authorities said the traffic signal for eastbound traffic was green; however, a female pedestrian in her 20s continued into those lanes where she was hit and killed by a 2003 Nissan Xterra.

Officials said she was wearing dark clothing and a dark-colored backpack. They also confirmed there was light rain in the area at the time of the wreck.

The 45-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken into custody after authorities discovered his license was suspended for no insurance in 2015. He was charged with driving on a suspended license and no proof of insurance.

The investigation into the fatality remained ongoing.
