NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Police arrested a driver into custody following a deadly hit-and-run crash near downtown Nashville.

The incident was reported at about 1 a.m. Tuesday at Lafayette and Claiborne Streets.

Metro Nashville police officers say 53-year-old Michelle Waller was hit by a car and the driver, 31-year-old Keith Floyd, kept going. The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she died.

Officials say she appeared to have been in the crosswalk, or very close to it, prior to the collision.

About two hours later, Floyd later returned to the scene and admitted he was the driver at the time of the crash.

Floyd did not have a valid driver’s license or insurance. He was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash, driving on a revoked license, and driving without insurance. Floyd remains jailed in lieu of $27,000 bond.
