NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Routine pipeline maintenance will be performed in Nashville by Piedmont Natural Gas over the course of the week.
According to Piedmont, the work will take place near 1360 County Hospital Road over Wednesday and Thursday, provided weather doesn't impact the work. They are scheduled to begin at 7 a.m.
The maintenance will include the use of a flare stack, which could cause a loud noise. A tall flame may also be visible to nearby neighborhoods and businesses. Anybody in the area may notice a whistling sound or the smell of natural gas.
Piedmont says the flare stack operation is a controlled process that is managed by their personnel and local fire departments. Flaring only happens as needed, and is not done during the entirety of the pipeline work.
Piedmont says the maintenance is key to maintaining a safe and reliable gas service.
