Whole Foods announced they plan to open a new location in Downtown Nashville, filling a need for more grocery stores in a growing residential area.

The high-end grocery store said they have signed a lease for a 41,500-square-foot store in a new development near the corners of 12th Avenue and Broadway, the former location of a Mazda dealership.

The new 27-story development will feature more than 300 apartments and multiple storefronts.

“Nashville is such a vibrant and exciting city, and we are thrilled to be opening a store downtown,” Omar Gaye, president of Whole Foods Market’s South Region, said. “We look forward to bringing fresh, healthy, delicious food to this growing area and its surrounding neighborhoods, as well being a community gathering spot in such a thriving city.”

Construction was set to begin toward the end of 2016.
