NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro police are trying to identify two men involved in a shooting downtown Nashville early Sunday morning that injured eight people.

Police said several people were gathered near Second Avenue N. and Commerce Street around 1 a.m. when an argument broke out over a dog that was with one of the men.

The man with the dog is accused of pulling out a handgun during the argument. Metro police said a second man left the area but returned shortly with a gun and other men.

Police said the two groups shot at each other and eight people were either struck or grazed by bullets. All were adults.

The dog was also shot and treated at Blue Pearl Animal Hospital. The animal is reportedly in stable condition.

Officers recovered a handgun from the scene and spoke with several witnesses and victims. A description of the two men officers are trying to identify was not immediately released.
