FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WTVF) — A man was shot by deputies after he led them on a police chase and manhunt along 840 in Williamson County Friday afternoon.

The incident began in Rutherford County when deputies tried to stop a man suspected of driving under the influence. They began chasing the driver when he didn't stop but ended their pursuit at the county line.

Williamson County Sheriff's officials say the driver crashed his car on 840. They say he pointed a gun at deputies after the crash and that's when they fired at him, hitting him in the leg.

The driver ran away into the woods along 840 in the Peytonsville-Arno Road area, leading officers and deputies on an hour-long manhunt. The eastbound lanes of 840 were closed between mile marker 34 and mile marker 37 while the search continued.

Once captured, he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
