Investigation Into Turley Dr. Shooting Continues

Police have been given few clues into what happened in a deadly shooting the night of February 18 on Turley Drive near Haywood Elementary School.

Witnesses told police they heard gun shots just past 11:30 p.m. They were shocked to learn 32-year-old Nawzad Sindy had been shot to death on a sidewalk.

"I have not heard of any disturbances in the neighborhood.  Anything like that, so this is completely out of the blue to me,” said Jeremy Robertson.

Police said it appeared to have been a crime of opportunity, possibly an attempted robbery. Sindy was from Iraq, and was used to walking.

He lived in the neighborhood, and people said it wasn't unusual for him to walk like he did the night he was shot.

Witnesses reported seeing a black mid-size sedan drive up. One person got out and confronted Sindy.

“It appears he was approached by an individual who got out of this black vehicle and some type of altercation happened between the two and Mr. Sindy was fatally shot,” said Danny Warren.

Police have had little information to go on. Information shared by witnesses was inconsistent, and they need others to come forward.

"If they've seen anything in the area of Turley Drive, Lucky Drive or Willow Drive it would be important for them to contact me,” said Warren.

The crime seemed similar to what police believe was an attempted robbery and shooting in a Priest Lake neighborhood in December.

A 32-year-old, Jesiah Lyke, was shot and killed on Bluewater Drive while he was walking with his twin brother. It also involved a dark colored sedan.

I don't have any evidence right now to suggest that the two are related,” said Warren. If you can help police solve the murder of Nawzad Sindy you can call Nashville Crime Stoppers.
