NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Police learned of a shooting that had taken place early Saturday morning when they pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation to discover the passenger had been shot.
According to the MNPD, the shooting occurred in the 600 block of Poplar Place around 12:15a.m. The victim, a 26-year-old male was talking with some friends outside when a white Hyundai Sonata pulled up.
Two male suspects exited the car, one armed with a rifle and the other armed with a handgun. Seeing this, the victim fled, but was quickly shot in the back by one of the men.
The suspects then took the victim's phone and an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing in their vehicle.
The victim then asked his brother to drive him to the hospital. It was during this ride that the vehicle was pulled over by police.
The victim was then transported by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
