Metro Nashville Police Department officers responded to a drive-by shooting in which a pregnant woman was injured.

It happened at 3705 Village Trail in the Chesapeake area near Madison around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to police, the apparent exchange of gunfire took place between two groups of people, reportedly traveling in separate vehicles.

However, instead of hitting the intended target, a stray bullet hit the 38-year-old woman. She was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, but she and her unborn baby were expected to be okay.

The suspected gunman was described as a young black man in his late teens who was possibly driving either a dark blue Chevrolet Trail Blazer with tinted windows or a Hyundai Sonata sedan.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
