I-24 Jumper Suspected In Smyrna Murder-Suicide

A homicide investigation has gotten underway in Smyrna after a 25-year-old was found dead from a gunshot wound.

Officials with Smyrna Police said the victim, identified as Jesse Edward Heslep, was found around 1 p.m. Monday at Fairwood Court in Smyrna.

According to police, the possible suspect is believed to be the same woman who jumped from an overpass on Interstate 24 Monday morning. She was identified as his 55-year-old mother, Lisa Heslep.

Detectives said they found evidence that would tie the victim to the female jumper. The motive remained under investigation.
