CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - A prosecutor says police have arrested a man who was indicted on a murder charge in a 34-year-old Hamilton County case.
District Attorney Neal Pinkston said in a statement that William Frank Hawk was taken into custody on Tuesday in Greene County. He is charged in the death of Johnny Mack Salyer, who was 27 when he disappeared on May 24, 1981. His body was found days later on June 3 in a locked steel drum in the Tennessee River near Lakesite.
Pinkston said his office's cold case unit began reviewing the death earlier this year with help from several other agencies.
It wasn't immediately clear whether Hawk has an attorney.
