NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Authorities said a man has died after he was pulled from the water at Elm Hill Marina.

Officials said the incident happened around 12:40 p.m. Sunday when the man allegedly jumped off a cliff and did not resurface.  Police on the scene say the man was with a group when it happened.

Emergency crews responded, recovered the victim from the water, and followed through with emergency procedures.

Melissa Moore was in the area when it happened, and she along with a handful of other people raced to save the man, but they were unsuccessful.

"Nobody could get down there, and we tried and tried and we couldn't get him," Moore said.

Moore says even though signs prohibit people from jumping off cliffs into Percy Priest Lake, several people do it every weekend.

Authorities said the 20-year-old man was from Chicago. His identity has not been released.
