NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Police say they’re investigating a homicide at a public housing complex in Nashville.
The shooting happened Wednesday afternoon at the Cumberland View Public Housing complex.
Metro police said 37-year-old Jamal Campbell was shot in the chest in what appeared to be a drug-related robbery in a breezeway. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died.
Police said it appears that 25-year-old Clarence Rene Baxter Jr. pulled a gun and tried to rob Campbell.
Officers later found Baxter in the stairwell of another housing unit. He had been shot in the leg and was taken to Vanderbilt, where he’s in stable condition.
Detectives say they’re investigating whether Campbell shot Baxter. Baxter will be arrested upon his discharge from the hospital and is expected to be charged with criminal homicide.
