NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man was taken into custody after he allegedly stabbed a 15-year-old boy in the neck with a broken bottle.

The incident was reported around 10:15 p.m. Sunday, at a residence on Ireland Street.

Officials with Metro police said the ordeal began when two girls went to their elderly grandmother’s house to check on her. Behind the home, they found her boyfriend, Julio Hernandez-Battle, who was allegedly drunk.

The girls asked him for the keys to the house and at that point, police said he tried to stab them but was too drunk and fell to the ground.

The girls were able to get the keys and get inside to safety. At the same time, a 15-year-old boy was walking by.

According to police, he laughed at the suspect and that's when he charged the teen and stabbed him in the neck.

The boy was rushed to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, but was expected to make a full recovery.

Hernandez-Battle was arrested and charged with attempted criminal homicide and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

His bond has been set at more than $200,000.
