A Murfreesboro police officer was critically injured Thursday in a crash involving another vehicle on Memorial Drive.
According to police officials, Officer Matthew Stern was involved in a motorcycle crash while responding to another crash at the I-24 ramp at Church Street.
He was driving his motorcycle on Memorial Drive when he was hit by a SUV which was carrying two people.
Stern was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and was in the intensive care unit.
On Friday, authorities confirmed Stern was in stable but serious condition. They added that over the next several days he has been scheduled to undergo multiple surgeries.
Part of Memorial Drive at Irongate was closed for a few hours while the Tennessee Highway Patrol Investigated.
Officials said Stern, part of the Motorcycle Unit, has been with the Murfreesboro Police Department for nine years.
