SMITHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A hunt for a wanted man and his young son has ended after a suspect crashed his car and fled the scene on foot with a young boy after trying to outrun county deputies. Police say the man is in custody and the child is safe.

The suspect, George Forest Brown, 34, and his son, Chase Brown were missing for several hours after running from police on Sunday.

Sheriff Patrick Ray released a statement claiming that Brown was dangerous and may be armed. Brown is also currently wanted in Hillsdale, Michigan for a pursuit there last week in which he fired shots at Michigan officers.

This incident began around 12:23 p.m. on Sunday when a resident on Shoreline Drive off Coconut Ridge Road reported a man had been acting suspiciously and had come to his door saying his car was stuck on a walking trail at Shoreline Drive and needed help getting out.

Deputies then headed toward the site where the man was believed to be. At this time the caller was assisting the man in pulling his car out of the mud and back onto the road.

When the deputies spotted the suspect’s car near the intersection of Coconut Ridge Road and Savannah Drive. It was swerving on the road at 20-30 mph.

Police pulled the car over but the suspect drove off before officers were able to confront him. They began a pursuit from Coconut Ridge Road to Allen Street and then to the end of Big Hurricane Road. This is when the suspect turned his car around the tried to ram it into the deputies cars.

The pursuit then resumed from Big Hurricane Road onto Cookeville Highway and then Ponder Road where the suspect crashed his car through an iron gate at the end of the road. The suspect again turned around and tried to ram his car into the deputies cruisers before leading them down Ponder Road back to the highway.

The suspect then turned onto Puckett’s Point Road and officers continued to follow until the car went off the road. The suspect and his child then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot into the woods.

Residents in the area of Puckett’s Point Road and Ponder Road were warned to keep their doors locked and to report any sightings or suspicious activity.
