MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Officials say a Shelby County Sheriff's deputy has been arrested for DUI while he was on his department-issued motorcycle.
Lewis Noblin, age 55, was relieved of duty without pay after the incident, which occurred after midnight on Sunday near the Memphis-Germantown border.
Police say Noblin, who was off-duty, but in his uniform, was stopped at the light near a Germantown police officer when Noblin's bike toppled over.
The officer says Noblin was staggering and his speech was slurred. Police say he failed a field-sobriety test.
Noblin was charged with DUI and later released on $1,000 bond.
It is still unknown why Noblin was in uniform and on his official motorcycle.
Sheriff's office spokesman Chip Washington says he does not know if Noblin has hired an attorney.
