PORTLAND, Tenn. (WTVF) — Portland Police officers arrested a woman they say tried to kill her elderly mother.
On Tuesday, officers were called to a traffic crash in which a shot was fired inside a vehicle. At the scene they found 55-year-old Mitzi Mathias. She was covered in blood and made statements about her mother.
She led officers to her home, which she shares with her mom. That's where officers then found the front door broken and smashed and the Mathias' mother on the floor, covered in blood.
The woman, in her early 80s, was transported to the hospital.
Mathias was taken into custody and charged with attempted first degree murder and especially aggravated robbery by Portland detectives. Officials say the investigation is ongoing.
