SMYRNA, Tenn. (WTVF) — A local postal worker was honored for helping save a man's life while delivering the mail.

While on his route, letter Carrier Edgar Prosper came across a homeowner in trouble. The man had been cutting his lawn and fell off the mower in a diabetic coma.

Prosper found a neighbor to call 9-1-1 and stayed there with them until first responders arrived.

Prosper gave credit to his wife for his being in the right place at the right time.

He said his wife brings him lunch on Saturdays. They had planned to meet up at a certain spot, but she was running late; so he kept working, and that's when he spotted the man in need.

The two men met up at the award ceremony for the first time since the incident.
