Mayor Megan Barry and new Metro Director of Schools Shawn Joseph visited the Nashville Public Library for the summer reading program ‘Bringing Books to Life.’
The program travels to daycares and schools in Davidson County to help kids be reading ready by the time they reach kindergarten.
Even though school might be out of session many kids in Music City were still hitting the books because of the literacy initiative.
Director of Schools, Dr. Shawn Joseph, said that while kids around the country struggle with literacy, Nashville is making a difference
“…What's exciting here in Nashville is that we have extraordinary libraries and an extraordinary group of individuals in the city who want to come together to do something about it,” said Joseph.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, only one third of American fourth graders are proficient in reading
