NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The elderly are some of the most vulnerable members of our communities but one organization has reached out in an attempt to protect them from crimes.
Fifty Forward might have been around for more than 50 years, but with a name change from Senior Citizens Inc., advocates wanted to remind the community it exists to help the elderly.
Peggy Hunter is one of Fifty Forward's clients who benefited from the Victory Over Crime program, after she was assaulted by a relative and even fell victim to shoddy contractors.
The program provides support to the elderly who have become victims of crime by walking them through legal proceedings or helping them identify scams.
"Well it is pretty horrible, and they are very vulnerable people over the age of 50 may be isolated and they become victims of sometimes getting a little bit older," said Carolyn Biggers,
Program coordinators are reaching out to different agencies. On Friday, they were speaking to those at the Metro Police Department, hoping to partner up with them and others within the criminal justice system.
The program is free for those ages 50 or older and live in Davidson County.
