NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Peaceful demonstrations continued in Nashville Monday, with one led by Nashville’s court-appointed attorneys.

It was a scene that played out across the country on Monday. The march in Nashville, led by the city's public defenders, was relatively smaller and shorter than other marches over the last two weeks.

Before the march, Martesha Johnson, Nashville's Chief Public Defender, spoke about the systemic racism that exists in the city’s policies, including not letting people accused of crimes out of jail without paying bail.

"If they have to remain in custody, there’s a higher likelihood they’ll enter a plea of guilty, they won’t exercise rights that are given to them by the constitution," Johnson said.

While at Public Square Park, the crowd paused for 9 minutes, in a moment of silence.
