ATOKA, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities in Tipton County are inviting the public to turn in expired or unwanted prescription pills at three locations later this month.

Officials say that members of the public can turn in expired, unused and unwanted prescription pills or patches to the Atoka Police Department, the Tipton County Sheriff's Office and Drug Free Tipton's booth at the Heritage Day Festival in Covington on Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Authorities say the service is free and anonymous, with no questions asked.

Officials say medicines that languish in homes are susceptible to misuse and abuse.

Also, disposing of unused medicine by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash can create potential safety and health hazards.
