Rape Suspect Extradited To Wilson Co.

Posted

A suspect believed to be responsible of a "horrific assault" has been extradited to Wilson County where he faces rape charges.

Officers described 34-year-old Christopher Justin Kirby as "extremely violent."

According to Sheriff Robert Bryan, Kirby faces charges in Wilson County of aggravated rape, aggravated assault and other charges stemming from a 2013 case.

He was extradited last week after being brought back from Mesa, Ariz. where he is currently serving time for assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Kirby's first hearing in Wilson County was set for a later date. Detectives stated that the man charged with a number of disturbing crimes returned to Tennessee despite at least one attempt to refuse extradition.

He was charged with aggravated rape, aggravated assault and theft of property. In a separate investigation involving another Wilson County law enforcement agency, Kirby was charged with a drug offense during the same time frame as the other charges.

Wilson County’s original investigation was prompted after the female victim was treated at a local hospital. “This was a horrific assault,” said Sheriff Bryan. “The victim could have easily been killed during this incident. This department is determined to do everything within our power to find and prosecute anyone who commits any such crime in Wilson County to fullest extent of the law.”

Kirby was sentenced to 26 years in Arizona regardless of any additional crimes he will be sentenced for after conviction in Tennessee.
