NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The American Red Cross issued an urgent plea for blood donors Thursday morning, as it doesn't have enough blood to make it another three days.
The Red Cross said there is a variety of reasons for the current blood shortage. Donations were down in June, and the Red Cross said the Fourth of July holiday made things worse.
The group said it saw 400 fewer blood drives during the holiday week, leading to 17,000 fewer donations.
Now, the Red Cross said it only has a three-day supply of most blood types. It typically has five days worth.
