NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — All eyes are on Hurricane Delta, which will be the big player in our forecast for the next 72 hours.
Delta is currently a Category 3 Hurricane with maximum sustained winds at 120 mph. Delta will make landfall later tonight along the coast line on Louisiana. Sadly, this system will impact areas still recovering from Hurricane Laura just six weeks ago.
As Delta moves inland it will weaken -- approaching our area by Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Today we will see a mostly cloudy sky with scattered showers moving through the Mid-State. Minimal impacts from Delta expected through the afternoon and evening, just much needed rainfall for our yards and plants.
By Saturday, more widespread showers will move in, with the heaviest rain expected by Saturday night into Sunday.
Right now, our severe threat is very limited. We will need to monitor areas near the Tennessee-Alabama state line for quick spin-up tornadoes Saturday afternoon and evening, but this is not a widespread concern.
We look to pick up on 1-3" of rainfall through Sunday night. Parts of West Tennessee are under a Flash Flood Watch through Sunday, however, I'm not as concerned for flooding here because we have been so dry for the last few weeks.
Rain will move out by Sunday night. A weak front will move into the area Monday but will only bring a low risk for rain showers. The rest of next week looks dry with some sunshine.
