Lawmakers got a chance to tour Ft. Campbell in hopes getting an idea of where military funding is needed most.
Representatives Mac Thornberry, Marsha Blackburn, and Diane Black toured the Fort Campbell Army Post Tuesday.
They met with commanding general of the 101st airborne division, Major General Andrew Poppas, to discuss the needs of the unit.
The current budget for the defense department sits at $523 billion.
President Trump has proposed a $54 billion increase and Ft. Campbell commanders hoped some of those funds will go towards military personnel.
During their tour, the Representatives were able to see the vital function of Ft. Campbell to not only the region but our nation.
They also saw some of the new and old equipment and facilities the Post has to offer. They discovered that many of the pieces of equipment are in dire need of repairs.
U.S Representatives said they will take the information that they've learned on the tour back to Washington and hope to start allocating the military funding to areas where it's most needed quickly.
