NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Residents are practicing social distancing by spring cleaning their homes due to COVID-19.

While some places are vacant, the Goodwill drop off spot in Green Hills was busy this weekend.

"Just cleaning, getting rid of stuff," Georgia Likins said. "And yea it’s probably a good time to give stuff to Goodwill."

Likins said she has been cooped up in her home as she practices social distancing due to COVID-19."Cleaning, playing lots of card games, watching too much TV."

Hundreds of people came by to donate their belongings like Bob Levy.

"It might be a benefit for them, it’s an opportunity for people," Levy said. "If they’re inside anyway in their house, they’re kind of looking around and say well time to spring clean anyway."

Levy said he also went on a walk at Radnor Lake State Park to stay occupied.

There aren’t any entertainment events really that you can go to, most everything is canceled... ball games, concerts, things like that," Levy said. "I think the Belcourt is having movies but they’re only selling 40% of their tickets so people can spread out more in the theater."

Many believe spring cleaning, and donating unwanted items, is a good way to pass the time as people try to protect themselves from the new coronavirus.

The Goodwill drop off location in Green Hills is open in the winter seven days a week from 7a.m. to 5 p.m.
