SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (WTVF) — Robertson County Mayor William Vogle issued an executive order requiring residents to wear a face mask while in public.
"We need everyone's help to slow the trend of rising COVID-19 cases. My purpose is to reduce the rate of infection of this deadly virus," Mayor Vogle said in a press release. "Pandemic fatigue is real; our confusion and frustration is real...but now is the time to take proactive measures and focus on the health of our family, friends, neighbors and community."
Vogle issued the order in response to Governor Bill Lee's signing of Executive Order 54, which gives county mayors the authority is issue mask mandates on a local level.
Robertson County joins the short list of mid-state counties with a mask mandate which includes Davidson, Williamson and Sumner Counties.
Mayor Vogle said the county has discussed the order with legal representatives of other surrounding Counties and the legal representatives of the County Technical Advisory Services (CTAS), who represent and advise all Tennessee County governments.
They say the order is enforceable by not only the County Sheriff’s Department but also officers of each municipal police department in the County, in the same manner as any other State Law.
