NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — NewsChannel 5 teamed up with the Salvation Army to Rock the Red Kettle.
By taking one kettle for one day and committing to raise $1,000, we will provide housing and food for one month for a person in need.
“We have experienced a significant increase in persons seeking assistance,” said Murfreesboro’s Maj. Joseph Irvin. “In 2018, we saw an increase of 26% in the number of persons needing emergency shelter and 41% in the number of meals we served in our free community meal.”
While volunteers are the backbone of the Red Kettle Season, donors provide the true success. In 2018, the cash and coins dropped into the iconic red kettles, helped to provide $115,791 and provided 14,682 nights of lodging and 58,768 hot meals, among many other contributions to the community.
