An ROTC instructor in Sumner County has been accused of statutory rape with a 17-year-old girl.
The alleged incident happened during the latter part of 2014.
Officials with Hendersonville Police said they received a complaint on April 1 about sexual contact between a teenage girl and a teacher at Hendersonville High School.
Authorities said Michael Bass was arrested after they obtained evidence to confirm the victim’s statement.
Bass, age 46, has been charged with one count of statutory rape by an authority figure.
Police said the investigation revealed that even though Bass used his position as an ROTC instructor, none of the alleged sexual encounters occurred at the high school.
A court date has been set for May 24. He was held at the Sumner County jail on a $30,000.00 bond, and has since made bail.
