Sazerac has been eyeing a Tennessee site for a new distillery.
The Daily News Journal reported the property under consideration by the Louisiana-based company is near an old rock quarry in Murfreesboro, about 30 miles southeast of Nashville.
Sazerac spokeswoman Amy Preske said the growing city has provided an attractive location for the company. She also cited the Middle Tennessee State University's fermentation science program.
State Senator Bill Ketron, a Murfreesboro Republican who’s running for Rutherford County mayor, said he supports rezoning the site to accommodate the distillery if the company chooses to buy the land. He said a distillery would cause less traffic than if it were developed into a 200-home subdivision.
Sazerac last year bought craft distillery Avery Trail in Newport, Tennessee.
