Harpeth High School's Best Buddies program held an intramural basketball game in an effort to promote the "Spread the word...to End the Word" campaign.
Best Buddies pairs special needs students with other students who help them create friendships and give them support.
The Spread the Word campaign aims to abolish the word "retarded" from conversation.
The Harpeth basketball team played the Special Olympics team, which included a mixture of students with and without special needs, during the intramural game.
All high schools in Cheatham County are now on board to end the "R" word.
