MANCHESTER, Tenn. (WTVF) — A search has gotten underway for a suspect who fled a traffic stop in Coffee County. A Grundy County officer was injured during the ordeal.

The incident happened at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Highway 55 and New Hope Road.

A Grundy County officer was on his way home when he came across two vehicles that appeared to have been involved in a minor crash. He pulled over, and at some point, an altercation broke out between he and the male suspect.

The officer tried to detain him, but he managed to get back to the vehicle and flee – dragging the officer down the road for a bit.

At that time, the officer fired shots but the suspect got away. He has not yet been caught.

The officer was treated at an area hospital and later released. The investigation remains ongoing.
