U.S. Senator Rand Paul was reportedly assaulted in his home in Bowling Green, Kentucky, according to the Kentucky State Police.

State troopers responded to a call at Paul’s home just before 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Police arrested 59-year-old Rene Albert Boucher, who they alleged "intentionally assaulted" Paul, which caused him to receive a “minor injury."

Boucher, of Bowling Green, was charged with one count of fourth-degree assault.

As of Saturday afternoon, Boucher was being held in the Warren County Regional Jail on a $5,000 bond.

The reason for the alleged assault had not been released. The investigation remained ongoing.

Kelsey Cooper, Paul's Kentucky communications director, released the following statement:

"Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault. The assailant was arrested and it is now a matter for the police. Senator Paul is fine."
