SMYRNA, Tenn. – Several suspects have been taken into custody after an apparent shootout near a busy shopping area in Rutherford County.
Officials with the Smyrna Police Department said the incident happened around 12:50 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Lowry Street and Enon Springs Road.
Witnesses reported seeing the occupants of two vehicles shooting at each other on Lowry Street near the Regions Bank.
Sergeant Bobby Gibson said officers quickly responded to the scene, and were able to stop one of the vehicles. Two occupants inside the vehicle were taken into custody.
The other vehicle was able to escape, but after an alert went out to law enforcement in the surrounding area, officers from the Murfreesboro Police Department were able to spot a vehicle matching the description.
The occupants of the second vehicle were stopped and taken into custody.
It was not clear exactly how many suspects were in custody or being questioned.
Gibson said there no reports of injuries, although an ambulance did respond to the scene.
