NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Monday marks the beginning of Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Because springtime typically ushers in severe weather, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Commerce and Insurance want you to be prepared for anything.

To help prepare, a statewide tornado drill is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday. They will also test NOAA weather radios.

No matter the event – whether it’s a tornado or flooding – experts recommend you and your family come up with a safety plan.

Remember, you should:

  • Avoid walking or driving into high water
  • Go to your basement or the innermost room in your home during a tornado warning
  • Make sure you have a basic emergency kit in your home and car
