CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Clarksville church scheduled for demolition got the process started early after severe weather moved through the area this week.
Officials say parts of the roof and walls of Wesley Chapel Christian Methodist Church were toppled sometime late Wednesday or early Thursday morning by rain and high winds.
Neighbors told emergency officials homeless people were known to stay in the church. A search Thursday found no one trapped inside and the all clear was given.
The rest of the building was leveled later that evening.
The property the church once stood on is being turned into affordable housing after an agreement was struck between the church and city.
