School officials with Austin Peay State University sent out an alert saying a shooting had reportedly happened near campus.
According to the alert, authorities with the Clarksville Police Department had reported someone was shot on Ford Street behind Centerstone before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Police said the suspect started firing shots near the victim who was walking down the street toward College Street. The victim, said to be in his 20s, was hit in the leg. He was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was last listed in stable condition.
The suspect was described as a man driving an older model, faded Ford, possibly a Taurus. He fled onto Shearor Street before officials arrived.
Further details were not available as the investigation remained ongoing.
APSU PD has been notified by CPD that the suspect is no longer believed to be in the area, nor does there appear to immediate danger to campus.
