A happy Thanksgiving turned into a hunt for savings early Thursday night as hundreds across Middle Tennessee spent their evening waiting in line to get huge deals on holiday shopping.

As online retailers take a larger portion of holiday shopping money, some shoppers say they shop both online and in stores. Tomorrow's holiday shopping will continue with Small Business Saturday.

Police officers will also be out at several locations to make sure you're safe while shopping.

Officers have been stationed at Opry Mills Mall, Green Hills Mall, One Bellevue Place and more. They're watching from the sky, on horseback and on the ground.

If you plan on going shopping today or over the weekend, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Secure your valuables and store your purchases out of sight in your car.
  • Also, lock your car and take your keys with you.
  • Don't leave purses or bags unattended in stores.
  • And when you get home, don't showcase your purchases so they can be seen through a window.
