Crews worked to fill a large sinkhole that opened up in downtown Nashville.
The pavement on Korean Veterans Boulevard at 4th Avenue South caved in Thursday afternoon.
Crews quickly worked to patch the hole, but it was so large that at least one lane had to be closed so repairs could be made.
The sink hole was evaluated by Metro Public Works and contractors. Officials said a subgrade failure beneath the cross-walk caused the concrete slab supporting it to collapse.
The hole was backfilled with stone and capped with asphaltic binder to match the elevation of the surrounding surface.
They said they would be monitoring the area for the next few weeks for any additional movement. After that, a permanent repair will be made.
The lane was reopened around 5 p.m.
