A former Smith County deputy was indicted after allegedly stealing drugs from the agency’s evidence room.

On Monday, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began investigating the theft of drugs from the evidence room at the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.

Brandon McKae Marshall has been accused of removing items from evidence lockers for personal reasons.

The TBI said the thefts happened on two occasions – once when he was on-duty and once when he was off-duty.

The sheriff’s office later terminated his employment.

He was indicted Tuesday on two counts of official misconduct, two counts of theft, and two counts of tampering with evidence.

Marshall was booked into the Smith County Jail on $10,000 bond.
