SMYRNA, Tenn. -- A group in Smyrna has been protesting Walmart's decision to remove products with the Confederate flag from its shelves.

About three dozen people gathered outside the Walmart in Smyrna Saturday afternoon.

Folks there said the Confederate flag isn't a symbol of racism or white supremacy, but a way to honor their ancestors.

Walmart and several other stores announced it would be removing items with the Confederate flag on them from their stores, following the racially-motivated Charleston church shooting.

Folks at Saturday’s gathering said they're pleased with the support they got as cars passed by.

“They ride by and they honk their horn, they're just as passionate about it as we are,” said Gregory Browning, one of the attendees.

As more and more leaders have called for the removal of the Confederate flag, those with Walmart said they removed the items featuring the flag because they never want to offend anyone with the products they offer.
