SMYRNA, Tenn. (WTVF) — Some Smyrna residents were evacuated from their homes after a gas line was ruptured Tuesday morning.

Rutherford County Fire Rescue said the gas leak is in the area of Old Nashville Highway, Chicken Pike and Baker Road. These roads were closed for a few hours as crews work to resolve the issue.

On Tuesday afternoon, Old Nashville Highway between Baker Road and Chicken Pike opened to one lane of traffic. The rest of the roadway will be closed for eight to 12 hours while crews repair the gas line.

Those who did not evacuate the area are asked to shelter in place until otherwise notified.

The rupture was caused by construction crews who hit a gas line while working around 10:30 a.m.
