MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – An incredible story of forgiveness was set to unfold Sunday in Murfreesboro, and it’s coming from the least likely of places.
Twenty-eight years ago, Phillip Robinson's father, Wayne Robinson, owned a grocery store in Murfreesboro, when he was shot and killed in an armed robbery. Ron Hammer was one of two men convicted of the crime.
Hammer spent dozens of years behind bars, before finally writing a letter to Phillip's mom, apologizing for the crime, and asking for forgiveness.
Phillip and his mom accepted Hammer’s apology, and the two began writing letters back and forth.
Hammer was released earlier this year, and the two have become friends.
“We just started finding these common links between us, he became a real person to me, and I became a real person to him,” Robinson said.
Sunday morning, Phillip and Hammer said they would be talking about their story during the three services at New Vision Baptist Church at 1750 N. Thompson Lane in Murfreesboro. The service times were scheduled for 8:20 a.m., 9:40 a.m., and 11 a.m.
