SRO Officer Honored For Saving Choking Child

LEBANON, Tenn. - A school resource officer for the Lebanon Special School District was honored Monday after his quick thinking saved a student's life.

Deputy Joseph Bowen was recognized for helping save a young girl at Byars Dowdy Elementary school in Lebanon.

The child choked on a piece of candy and Deputy Bowen jumped in and performed the Heimlich maneuver.

“Luckily this wasn't a tragedy. It was an event that happened in a school where he did what he was trained to do, and that is protect our students," said Mike Kurte with the Lebanon Special School District.

School officials wanted to make sure this positive story received proper attention; so they honored him by giving him a plaque.
