11 Families Displaced In Tullahoma Fire

Posted

Authorities confirmed 11 families lost their homes in a fire at an apartment complex.

The blaze happened just before 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Country Club apartments in the 400 block of College Street.

Those with the Tullahoma Fire Department arrived to find smoke coming from the first and second floor windows.

The police department was on the scene evacuating residents when crews arrived.

Fire fighters worked to subdue the fire. Officials said the flames had jumped behind walls and into the attic.

Chief Richard Shasteen, of the Tullahoma Fire Department, said crews did an amazing job and prevented the fire from spreading further.

No injuries were reported from the fire, but 11 families were displaced as two units of the 16-unit complex had fire damage. The rest of the units had extensive smoke damage.

Authorities said the fire appeared to have started near a heating and air unit before traveling through the walls into the upstairs apartments.

The exact cause of the fire remained under investigation.
