The Nashville Education, Community, and Arts Television, NECAT, gives teens a chance to learn about TV production year round, but during fall break they get to do it in a spooky way.
In Zombie TV Camp, students get a chance to learn all aspects of production from cameras to directing.
As a bonus, writer/director and special effects master Rick Prince joins the camp to teach the kids how to apply zombie special effects makeup.
Rick is a Nashville native who was featured on season 5 of the special effects competition show "Face Off" on the Syfy network and is now writing and directing his own films.
He says, "I've always been motivated by monsters. When I saw movie monsters I had to be one of them, and I've been chasing that dream my whole life."
He's happy to give back to kids in Nashville by teaching them how to do special effects makeup.
He says, "my ability to teach and show special effects makeup to the kids in the community, if that sparks their interest, that moves mountains inside of me, because that would have been everything for me in high school."
NECAT is a nonprofit organization that runs three public access channels that have served the community since the 1970s.
Their studio is located at Nashville State Community College. Click here, to learn more about the program.
